      Bio: Jen Yelton earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Spanish from Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC, graduating as a member of Phi Beta Kappa and other various honors societies. She completed her Master of Arts in International Affairs at the University of North Georgia in May 2017. As an undergraduate, Jen was fortunate to participate in varied international and internship experiences; based on these opportunities, she is a major proponent of experiential education. Outside of her passion for helping students realize their potential, Jen loves to bake, read just about any book she can get her hands on, and enjoys discussing anything related to the Harry Potter series.

     

    Internship & Co-op Information

        Cooperative Education (Co-op) - Three alternating semesters over a five semester period with the same company in a position that provides experience directly related to the academic major. Students in these positions are typically paid a wage.

        • Position is full–time; enrollment must also be full-time during school terms between work terms. Many positions are paid with wages ranging from $12-20/hr., depending on the company. Students may not take classes during work terms, unless approved by the Department of Career Planning & Development. 
        • Sophomores, juniors, seniors, and students in graduate school with a declared eligible major, at least 30 completed credit hours, and a 2.50 KSU GPA are eligible to participate.
        • Students must have completed one semester at KSU prior to beginning an intern or co-op position.
            • A one-hour internship/co-op orientation session MUST be attended
        • Students must submit an application through the “Apply Here” button above in order to enroll in COOP 2000.

        Internships - Employment that closely relates to the student’s major and is usually one semester in length. Internships for STEM majors are typically paid with wages ranging from $12-$20/hr., depending on the company.

        • The internship may be part–time or full–time. Students may take classes simultaneously with internships.
        • Sophomores, juniors, seniors, and students in graduate school with a declared eligible major, at least 30 completed credit hours, and a 2.50 KSU GPA are eligible to participate.
        • Students must have completed one semester at KSU prior to beginning an intern or co-op position.
            • A one-hour internship/co-op orientation session MUST be attended
        • Students must submit an application through the “Apply Here” button above in order to enroll in the internship program.

      • The best way to find a position is to log into Handshake and complete your profile. Look at opportunities under “Jobs” and submit your resume if you meet the qualifications.You can also find an internship on your own without using Handshake, as long as you and the position meet the program requirements. See your Career & Internship Advisor for different avenues for finding positions. 

        All positions have to be approved through The Department of Career Planning & Development. NOTE: KSU does not give retroactive credit.

      • In order to receive academic credit, you must meet the specific class requirements set forth by your college. Please review the specific course requirements pertaining to your major below. Review the instructions for completing the application for internship/co-op credit here.

        You have until the last day of Final Registration each semester (in which you plan to intern) to apply for credit. Applicants must allow for up to 10 days of processing. Please do not wait until the last minute. It is highly recommended that you apply for the credit the semester previous to the one you plan to intern. Retroactive credit will not be granted.
